Centifolia’s multi petaled head hangs heavy, her soft honey notes whispering her sweeter scent, her green note almost violet like, her aroma, lighter than her Damak sister. Rose de Mai absolute is probably the most used of the Rose absolute family. It is the gift of both France and Morocco. It rounds up a blend with its softer honey notes and lifts where a composition appears dull. The yield of this varietal is low which is why Centifolia is only found as an absolute. The rose has been so loved throughout time that even from early civilization, poems have been written about it. The Persian poet Sheik Sadi of Shiraz gave a description of his gardens ; “The ground was enameled with odorous flowers, dewdrops hung on the rose like tears on the cheeks of a maiden.” The cheeks of this aromatic maiden have been anointed with the hundred leafed, tender flower over the years, comforting me in grief and heartbreak. It holds me in kindness, calms my spirit to gentle stillness. It’s true to say that to smell me is to smell Rose.
Suggested uses: blend with Mimosa, Orange Blossom, Jasmine, Patchouli and Sandalwood. Rose de Mai is in fact agreeable with most essential oils and absolutes including Orientals, Chypres and floral bases.
