Jasmine Pink Hydrosol California

Pink Jasmine treated me so poorly for two springs, I almost gave up trying to master the profile but with multiple fails came reflection and a lot of it. This spring, I was determined to harvest the flowers in the most restrained of harvests: the exact couple of day, of which there were four. I harvested at night and distilled slow and short. It was all those factors that produced a jasmine I consider a rival to the jasmine hydrosol I import from Egypt. 

Pink Jasmine hydrosol feels like triumph over a wily flower that had every notion not to be contained. Like the lilacs I distill every April, pink jasmine has its moment, its one week of harvest. Any time before or after that and I have the consolation prize of a fetid mess. The hour after sunset is her moment to release what I consider the most alluring of jasmine aromas. The flowers have their own beauty with pink buds that contrast velvet white petals, a nod to the bespoke nature of this beautiful flower and femininity of its aroma. The hydrosol is romantic and at times, naughty with its lingering notes. And its those notes that leave a smile on my face if only for feeling like a bad ass for taming the untamable.
