Near the end of winter when the shortest days have passed and the wild violets peek through snow like a bear coming out of hibernation, the scotch pine is at its most beautiful. Its need of long cold nights and bitterness that winter brings is inhospitable to humans but to a pine, it brings forth its resin, perfume and its vitamin C.
Scotch pine is the coeur or heart of the forest, the first scent you smell after the rain and snow and even in extreme heat. It’s the welcome mat of the trees. It’s also the welcome part of a conifer blend in a composition, that brightener – a woody note that brings memories of when we were of the forest. The CO2 has more viscosity and depth than scotch pine essential oil making it more of a middle note with tenacity. I found it immensely addictive as an addition to incense, perfume and even a little drop in skin care. Sometimes, its the one thing I want as a little dab on my wrist to remember when I was of the forest too.
