Our premium Jamaican Bay essential oil doesn’t mess around: it is a spicy sweet, balsamic clove note. Not my favorite scent as I’ve never had a fondness for eugenol based oils but when paired with pure Amla oil, we have found it beats any popular hair care offering on the market, as one might expect from Mother Nature. Bay oil has proven to be effective for maintaining my long thick hair particularly now when hair stylists are unavailable. It’s no wonder this useful essential oil has been popular throughout the ages in men’s hair care, eau de cologne and aftershaves and was one of the ingredients the famous Bay Rum.
Arctander describes the production of old fashioned Bay Rum as a distillation of Rum over Bay leaves by former Danish West Indies. I understand either production included simple macerations of leaf and rum which sounds like a very rough concoction to apply to skin or scalp. Jamaican Bay oil is helpful with dandruff and greasy hair as well. Although part of our photo shoot with this oil was with the California Bay, it is not the same as the Jamaican and is of the Umbellularia family. We thought it was close enough in leaf structure to make the point.
Suggested uses: Blends with Citrus, Lavender, Ylang ylang, Geranium and Rosemary essential oil.
