By the time I had climbed the pyramids in Giza, ridden a camel, been to the pyramids in Sakkara, I was on a bus headed 60 miles outside of Cairo to see orange trees and jasmine fields. This was day two of my buying trip to Egypt. I could smell the sweet honey notes when we arrived at the distillery. The trees held heavy sweet blossoms, cushioned softly near small green fruit. I couldn’t wait to see and smell and smear oils on my skin, to make decisions about aromatics I would bring back in my suitcase. I was unwilling to use even a drop of our purchases until I reached American shores.
I’ve had a very long history with Neroli Hydrosol. It has found its way into my espresso every afternoon ever since I can remember and sometimes in my orange flower water scented rice or homemade ice cream. It has been my skin companion and addition in skin care products just as long. Like Rose, Neroli is a hydrosol staple and I’d be lost without its sweet heavy scent. Neroli hydrosol is highly recommended in hair care, particularly by spraying the roots of wet hair to add shine and strengthen hair strands. Spray on a pillow to calm nerves before bedtime, use as a deodorant or as a skin toner to soften, hydrate and calm puffy skin. Cleopatra would approve.
