Although this is not the coveted stoechas subspecies, I’ve listened hard and searched long to answer the call I’ve received often over the last couple of years. Perfumers of another era recall White Lotus Aromatics’ Seville lavender, an absolute that was loved and is deeply missed. This oil meets that void. Production is small via hexane free solvent which allows the extract to shine and capture the rare profile aspect of lavender, something I haven’t found in the French manufacturing of Lavender absolute.Â
There’s dried fruit like the California hand grown and sun dried raisins I buy from a local farmer with resinous back notes; almost a mineral dirge like hanger on in the profile. The dry down is aged hay, recalling my memories of farm life as a kid, burying my nose in round bales made for winter animal feed and my play forts. The tobacco threads itself in the hay notes reminding me of the 70s wine dipped slim cigars I saw grandpas occasionally smoke in retirement. I loved this absolute immediately and I see it filling the void in a fougère or chypre but more importantly, I think I’ve answered the call.
