Black Locust Absolute

Black locust, a tree native to the southern states is used for its high BTU firewood, nitrogen fixing capabilities, highly scented flowers to attract pollinators and edible treats such as syrup and fritters but its those fragrant flowers that gets this perfumer excited. The flower absolute notes are not your run of the mill profile. It smells of 1980s play-doh and soft black licorice with a faint floral background as almost an after thought of the absolute. Black locust is a top note and adds sensual mystery to a composition. I found it to blend well with lavender absolute and bright florals such as fragonia and pineapple myrtle essential oil. It anchors well in base notes such as Buddha’s wood and Amyris oil.
