In the storybook of vanilla aromatics, I’ve managed to collect a number of offerings of the pods: oleoresin, absolute, wax and finally a small production of the CO2. I’ve evaluated commercial Vanilla CO2 in the past but found it misses out on middle notes within the oil. In other words, I haven’t been impressed by the CO2 until this one. It takes on an aroma similar to tulu balsam as opposed to peru balsam, meaning it contains less of the cookie notes that are prevalent in other extractions of the pod. The CO2 sweetens a composition without evolving it into a vanilla profile. This is both the beauty and the ingenuity of a CO2 production. Blending with cacao makes the most logical sense but I also think basil concrete, agarwood or perhaps sandalwood would bring out its extraordinary attributes. I can’t wait to hear what perfumers come up with.
