Atlas Cedarwood is a unique oil with sweet top notes as well as low woody notes. It has an astringent aspect too which is great for skin serums and face creams. When well distilled, that astringency develops into beautiful balsamic notes when blended in men’s colognes, after shave lotions, beard oils and other products. A poor distillation is enough to turn one off to Cedarwood altogether which was my personal experience a few years ago when I purchased Atlas Cedarwood from a well known supplier that I wanted to try. The oil was so acrid that I found it nauseating and wasn’t sure I would continue to stock it in the apothecary. Thankfully, I was able to fall back on a good supply because it would have been a real loss not to not carry this valuable oil in our apothecary.
Long ago, Parisians used Atlas Cedarwood in lotions and shampoos to help with hair loss. And today it is still recognized as a hair loss preventative. When added to our pure Amla Oil and a few drops of Rosemary, Atlas Cedarwood adds shine and strengthens the hair shaft. The oil blends with Labdanum and other wood oils such as Blood Cedarwood, one of my other favorites of the Cedarwood family. Atlas is sedative and ideal for meditation or a deep sleep. Because it is a decongestant as well, Atlas Cedarwood soothes the respiratory system.
Suggested uses: May be helpful for hairless when added to pure Amla oil. Useful in meditation practice and grounding spirit. In natural perfumery, Atlas Cedarwood blends well with Labdanum and other wood based oils.
