How To Distill Jonquil Flowers: Wild Card Distillation

Jonquil flowers, symbolic of good luck, their arrival recorded in 1750. As Greek mythology goes, Pluto – god of the underworld kidnapped Proserpina, goddess of the underworld while she was gathering lilies. Shocked and afraid, she dropped lilies which quickly turned to jonquil flowers. Perhaps Proserpina had been under the olive tree where I found these beautiful flowers by their scent. They arrived early, brought on by storms and heavy rains needed in a city almost declared a desert. Their generosity is allowing me to plan for several harvests. The first harvest is all about this distillation. Second round of harvests are dedicated to maceration which I began a few days after this distillation. The third round of harvests will be a return to a natural perfumery modality I’ve been away from for far too long –  enfleurage.

I hope you enjoy this distillation and thank you for watching. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or experiences you’d like to share.
