Lilac Absolute Oil Hexane Free

I wrote of my history with lilac flowers in the Lilac CO2 listing so I invite a read there. Lilac absolute oil is a study in the subtlety of different aroma profiles of the same plant due to extraction methods. Lilac CO2 captures the heart notes of lilac without the metallic compounds that are in the fresh flower. It offers more versatility in perfume work, something that should not be overlooked. Lilac absolute however, is a wild child of a profile. It holds all the intensity that burying one’s nose in a bouquet experiences. The absolute is emerald green offering metallic notes found in the fresh flower. Those notes were so pronounced upon arrival last year that I allowed it to age for almost a year. The minerality is still very much there but it has smoothed out some so it can be useful in a perfumer’s organ. In further evaluation, I did a 1% dilution in perfumer’s alcohol and found the absolute opens to a fragrant bouquet that I found myself revisiting often. This means that this is economical for the natural perfumer. Both of our lilac extractions have subtle but beautiful differences between them, both are small production and both are very rare. It’s my heart’s delight to have them in the apothecary after a lifetime of swooning to their aroma and three years of working with them in my still. Yes, I am pleased and I feel Steffen Arctander would have been pleased too.
